Tyler School of Art | Printmaking

Printmaking at Tyler has long held a reputation for bridging tradition and innovation. Given the nature of our medium, we will continue to teach and innovate the traditional print processes, which include, Intaglio, Relief, Lithography, Mono-print, Letterpress/Book Arts, and Serigraphy (screen printing), while incorporating a wide-range of possible digital/photo processes. We are also offer opportunities to explore the latest experimental and post-digital technologies, like, rapid prototyping and animation. Beyond process, we encourage our students to think about the history of ideas in the visual arts, with special attention given to the wide range of what printed art can be. In response our students become independent, self-directed artists, who graduate prepared to participate in the visual arts community with their work and their ideas. This ethos also contributes to the broad success our alumni find in the world working in the arts, academia, and other related commercial enterprises.

Tyler Printmaking is ranked #7 in MFA programs by U.S. News and World Report. We see this as a reflection of the dedication of our talented faculty, staff, and world class facilities, and our collaborations with regional and national print organizations and publications.

Location: Tyler School of Art, 2001 North 13th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19122
